Grace Bay Beach
Grace Bay Beach is the number one reason to visit the Turks and Caicos Islands.
It’s arguably the nicest beach in the world, certainly among the best in the Caribbean, and what makes it a stand out is the clear water of course, but also the length of the beach and the depth. It doesn’t drop off into deep too fast, and it’s also not shallow, it is the perfect adult bay. It’s like being in the shallow end of the pool.
It is a very safe beach. It is great for people who would normally avoid the beach because it is so clear and calm, it is great for children. It is sheltered by a barrier reef about a mile off the coast. It is so warm and it is not rocky or seaweedy on your feet. The calm waves, nearly non-existent in the summer, soothing sounds, gentle lapping waves instead of roaring ones.
The color of the water is really something to mention. You don’t get that anywhere else, the transition between clear to tealish to blueish. The water is sooooo clear! If you are the kind of person who is nervous being in the water because you can’t see what is around you, you would love it here. If you stick your head under the water you can see for a mile. The only things around are little fish that are curious to swim next to your feet and the occasional ray once you get about 5 feet deep. If you just lay in the foot deep water you can let the gentle rocking calm your senses.
The sand on the beach is extremely fine, it is really nice sand. Bone white. The sand does get a little hot though. The depth of the sand is great too, meaning that you don’t have to walk a long way from the water to the grass. Your feet don’t fry trying to get to the water.
At any time of year it isn’t really that crowded, you can always find an open spot and you don’t need to step over a bunch of people to get to a chair. There aren’t towels all over the place. It’s a public access beach so you can go there even if you aren’t staying there. There also aren’t skyscrapers, it has a nice skyline, nothing really goes above 7 stories.
